Bhubaneswar: The state capital on Monday recorded the highest maximum day temperature of 43. 8 Celsius by 2.30pm, revealed the regional Meteorological Centre.
Going by the data provided by the Meteorological Department, Balasore recorded 40.7 Celsius, Chandbali recorded 40.4 Celsius, Keonjhar recorded 38 C, Gopalpur recorded 37 Celsius, Sambalpur recorded 36.6 Celsius, Jharsuguda recorded 36. Puri recorded 35 C, Hirakud recorded 34.8 Celsius and Rourkela recorded 34.4 degree Celsius by 2.30 pm.
On April 5, Bhubaneswar witnessed temperature at 43.5 C while it recorded temperature of 43.6 C on April 18. However, the state capital crossed all earlier records and with 43.8 Celsius, Bhubaneswar experienced hottest day of the season.
“Due to the prevailing mainly Nor-westerly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation, day temperature is very likely to likely to be 40°C or above at many places over the districts of interior Odisha and likely to be above normal by 3 to 5°C over some districts of Odisha during the next 24 hours,” said IMD.
“Heat wave conditions very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bolangir, Boudh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Nuapada. Hot and Humid weather conditions very likely to prevail at one or two places over the due to prevailing mainly Northwesterly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation day temperature very likely to likely to be 40°C or above at many places over the districts of interior Odisha and likely to be above normal by 3 to 5°C over some districts of Odisha during next 24hrs”, read the IMD bulletin.
Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40- 50 KMPH is also very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, warned the IMD.
