Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued a nowcast warning predicting light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at a few places across 10 districts of Odisha over the next three hours, urging people to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
According to the IMD’s 7 pm bulletin, the districts likely to experience rain and thunderstorms are Anugola, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Kataka, Puri, Khordha, Sundaragada, Kendrapada and Debagada. The weather office said Cuttack city and Bhubaneswar city are also likely to witness rainfall and thunderstorm activity during the forecast period.
The nowcast warning indicates that light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning may occur at one or two places in the identified districts, with localised weather activity expected over the next three hours.
The IMD has advised residents, particularly those in vulnerable areas, to keep a close watch on changing weather conditions and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms.
People have also been urged to postpone outdoor activities wherever possible and remain indoors during lightning.
