Bhubaneswar: Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Saturday announced that major road construction projects aimed at easing traffic congestion in Bhubaneswar will commence within a month.

Speaking to media persons, Harichandan said that four to five key infrastructure projects have been identified to address traffic bottlenecks in the city.

“The alignment work for the left and right carriageways will begin within a month. The land acquisition process is nearing completion and is expected to be wrapped up by the end of this month. We are targeting completion of both carriageways by December,” he stated.

Highlighting another critical initiative, the minister said all traffic signals along the Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan stretch will be removed to ensure smoother flow of vehicles.

“Advanced traffic management systems will be installed along this corridor,” he said.

Harichandan further informed that the foundation stone for the next phase of the congestion-easing project will be laid during the June celebrations. The tendering process will be completed within a month, with work commencing shortly thereafter.

“We aim to complete all the planned roadworks within the next 2.5 to 3 years and position Bhubaneswar as a model city for traffic decongestion,” he added.
