Bhubaneswar: Infocity police have arrested six persons including three women following a raid at a hotel in the Sishu Vihar area of Bhubaneswar in the wee hours today.

The accused persons have been identified as Abhinav Singh (32), Silu Nayak (33), Rakesh Behera (27), Anindita Nayak (26), Tanushree Das (39), and Rupa Pan (30).

According to the police, on Tuesday Utkala Deepika Rout of Kaligali, Cuttack lodged a written report with the IIC, Infocity police station seeking legal action against the aforementioned accused persons.

“A woman named Utkala Deepika Rout sought assistance from Infocity police station. She informed that her husband Abhinav Singh who often stays outside their home due to family disturbance is now staying in an Oyo hotel with his friends and sought police assistance to trace him,” informed Ramesh Chandra Bisoi, ACP Zone VI, Bhubaneswar UPD briefing reporters here today.

Bisoi said that when Rout along with the police team reached the hotel in Infocity police limits it was found that three rooms had been booked and three persons were staying in them.

“When the rooms were checked two young women also came out from the room where Utkala Deepika’s husband was staying. On seeing Utkala Deepika her husband Abhinav got irritated. He along with the two women attempted to attack her. They were all brought to the police station. Based on Utkala Deepika’s report the three men and three women who were rounded up from the hotel have been forwarded to court in connection with the case registered at Infocity police station under sections 85/82(1)/296/115(2)/109/74/351(2)/3(5) BNS r/w Sec 4 DP Act,” stated Bisoi.

During its investigation police came to know that Utkala Deepika (complainant) was married to Abhinav Singh on November 30, 2022, in Bhubaneswar as per Hindu custom and rites.

Soon after their marriage Abhinav allegedly tortured Utkala Deepika both mentally and physically. Abhinav beat Utkala Deepika many times under the influence of alcohol. Utkala Deepika informed the matter to her in-laws. But her husband tortured her in front of her in-laws also. When she asked her in-laws to return her jewellery, they didn’t. Abhinav threatened to divorce her and marry another girl.

On Tuesday, Utkala Deepika received information, that her husband along with one Rakesh, Silu and other three girls were present at a hotel in the Sisuvihar area.

When Utkala Deepika along with the police team reached the hotel, then suddenly Abhinav, Rakesh, Silu and the other three girls abused her using obscene language. They also abused Utkala Deepika in filthy languages, threatening her with dire consequences, throttling her neck and attempting to kill her in life. The police staff were also abused by them when they tried to save her from their clutches.

The accused persons were brought to Infocity police station and later forwarded to court.
