Bhubaneswar: A day after the State government renamed the Biju Patnaik Sports Award as Odisha Rajya Krida Samman’, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi today said that the award which was instituted after the name of Biju Babu will continue as earlier.
Addressing the media, Majhi said that renaming the Biju Patnaik Spots Award has not been formally decided. The government has no such plan to change the name of it, he told reporters.
“I came to know about the renaming of the Biju Patnaik Sports Award from the media. The change of the name of the sports award has not been officially decided. My government gives respect to the great personalities of Odisha. The contribution of Biju Babu to Odisha and India in his long decades of political and social life will remain memorable forever. Biju Patnaik Sports Award will continue as earlier. There is no such plan to change its name,” Majhi told reporters.

Earlier on Friday, the Sports and Youth Services Department issued guidelines for the Rajya Krida Samman’ which will be awarded in eight categories annually.
The guidelines were issued without changing the amount of cash rewards.
The renaming of the Biju Patnaik Sports Award by the Government had triggered a major political slugfest throughout the day.
