Bhubaneswar: A three-day bird census is set to be conducted in the mangrove forest areas of Bhitarkanika National Park from August 30 to September 1.
The survey will cover key nesting sites located in Matha Dia, Laxmiprasad Dia, Durgaprasad Dia, and Bali Dia.
According to Varadaraj Gaonkar, Divisional Forest Officer (Wildlife), Rajnagar Division, the census will focus on colonial nesting birds.
“This is a specialised type of estimation. The survey will be carried out across four nesting sites—three in the Kanika Range and one in the Rajnagar Range,” he informed while addressing reporters.
The census aims to assess the nesting patterns, population size, and habitat conditions of these bird colonies.
