Bhubaneswar: There’s some good news for chicken and egg lovers. Odisha Public Health Director Dr Neelkantha Mishra has said that the fear of bird flu is a thing of the past and people can now consume chicken and eggs.
Speaking to the media, Dr Mishra said that bird flu was reported from some areas of the state, especially Puri and Kendrapara districts, but all affected chicken have been culled. Now, there is no fear of the infection and people can freely consume chicken and eggs.
According to Dr Mishra, broiler chickens and eggs produced in the state are not infected with H5N1 virus. Besides, occurs in the state every year around this season, he said, adding, “There is no reason to worry. There is no problem if the chicken is cooked well at high heat.”
Meanwhile, chicken and egg business had come to a standstill following the outbreak of bird flu in some pockets of the state. Chicken prices had dropped from Rs 200 to Rs 120-150 per kilo but there was no buyer. After the ‘bird flu’ scare, customers are now slowly purchasing and consuming eggs and chicken.
