Bhubaneswar: An ABVP candidate for the post of students’ union president at BJB Autonomous College sustained a head injury during a clash between two groups in Pipili on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Sunday, police said.
The candidate, Aryan Mohapatra, was initially taken to Pipili Hospital for treatment and later shifted to Capital Hospital for further medical care.
According to reports, the incident took place at Padapadia in Pipili during a gathering organised by Mohapatra and his supporters following an election campaign. More than 15 students were reportedly present at the venue, where a feast had been arranged.
The situation turned tense when a BJB College student residing in Pipili arrived at the spot along with five to six others. They allegedly objected to the preparation of non-vegetarian food near the premises of the nearby Nilakantheswar Temple.
The objection triggered an argument between the two groups, which subsequently escalated into a physical altercation. Mohapatra sustained a head injury during the clash.
He was rushed to Pipili Hospital, where he received initial treatment, before being referred to Capital Hospital for further medical care.
Meanwhile, Pipili police have registered a case in connection with the incident and formed two teams to identify and apprehend those involved in the clash.
An investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the violence, police said.
The ABVP has accused the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) of orchestrating the attack, alleging that some other candidates and their supporters were also targeted.
The allegations could not be independently verified.
