Bhubaneswar: A delegation of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday moved the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) accusing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Pratap Sarangi of violating the poll code of conduct.
Even after the model of code of conduct came into force for the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Sarangi with the help of some contractors installed solar lights in different places of Nachinda and Aruhuabrutti 1 grampanchayats under Bhograi block in Balasore district on March 31 night. Sarangi has done so to woo the voters of these areas, alleged the BJD leaders.
Demanding strict action against Sarangi, they further accused Sarangi of threatening villagers with dire consequences for disclosing about the installation of solar lights.
Despite opposition by local villagers, some contractors hired by Sarangi installed solar lights in these areas, the BJD members claimed.
The delegation team led by Sasmit Patra, meanwhile, demanded the CEO to order a probe into the incident.
