Bhubaneswar: Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Assembly and BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Monday called for the resignation of School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, holding him responsible for the widespread errors in the newly published school textbooks.
Speaking to the mediapersons, Patnaik said the minister must take moral responsibility for the mistakes and quit his post. He also urged Gond to follow the example set by former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
“School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond should resign. There have been a number of mistakes in the textbooks for students in our state. He should follow the example of Dharmendra Pradhan and resign from the post. This is what the BJD has been demanding for the last two to three weeks,” Patnaik said.
The BJD chief’s demand comes in the wake of a row over errors detected in textbooks for Classes I to VIII. According to reports, over 1,600 errors have been found in the books drawing strong criticism from Opposition parties, academicians and other stakeholders in the education sector.
