Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has announced a protest rally in front of Raj Bhawan on May 21, demanding reservation in higher education for Other Backward Classes (OBC).
In a press meet, BJD criticized the BJP government over the OBC reservation issue, calling it a hoax.
BJD’s OBC Cell Vice President Arun Sahu slammed the government, saying that despite raising the issue several times in the Odisha Assembly, the BJP government has not taken any concrete steps to provide reservation to OBCs in higher education, including medical and engineering courses.
The BJD has been demanding 27% reservation for OBCs in higher education, including medical, engineering, and professional courses. Sahu said that the government’s reluctance to provide reservations is a clear indication that they do not want OBCs to become doctors and engineers.
Sahu said that the government’s inaction is unfortunate and that the party will continue its agitation until the demand is met.
“The government is only making decisions on paper, but not taking any concrete steps to benefit the reserved classes,” he alleged.
