Berhampur: A youth activist of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) was stabbed to death in broad daylight in Ganjam district today. The deceased has been identified as Anil Mohanty (Koka) of Bariguda village under Dharakote police limits of Ganjam district.
According to reports, while Mohanty was returning home from Ukhudapat village on his scooter, some unidentified youths stopped him at the end of his village before stabbing him at several places. Mohanty died on the spot.
Mohanty was an active and dedicated worker of the BJD for the last 20 years. Initially, he was working for the BJD in Sorada Assembly constituency and had later shifted base to Dharakote.
Soon after the news of Mohanty’s sudden death spread, queen of erstwhile Dharakote princely state Nandini Devi, Dharakote Block chairperson Sulakshana Gitanjali Devi, Zilla Parishad chairperson Anjali Swain and Sorada MLA Purna Chandra Swain of BJD rushed to the spot and expressed deep grief over Mohanty’s death.
On being informed Dharakote IIC, Aska SDPO and IICs of other police stations have rushed to the crime spot and initiated an investigation into the matter.
