Bhubaneswar: Two BJP MLAs- Mohan Majhi and Mukesh Mahaling- have been suspended from the Assembly for disrespecting the Speaker during House business.
Speaker Pramila Mallik suspended the two legislators till the end of the Monsoon session.
The BJP members first stormed into the well of the House and created noise, alleging that Leader of Opposition was not allowed to speak. The Opposition members staged protest in the well with dal.
Later, Majhi who is also the Opposition chief whip, and his Assembly colleague Mahaling allegedly threw dal to the Speaker’s podium.
Mukesh, however, refuted the allegation of throwing dal. “We have presented Dal to the Speaker. We have not thrown it to the podium. The House is not functioning democratically. The Leader of Opposition Jay Narayan Mishra was not allowed to speak in the House. We have protested it only,” Mahalinga said.
Speaker Pramila Mallik said “The House was upset over the conduct of the two MLAs. They were placed under suspension for the entire session as per constitutional norms.”
