Bhubaneswar: A Booth Level Officer (BLO) engaged in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has alleged that he was assaulted while carrying out official duties in Bhubaneswar.
The officer, identified as Ajodhya Narayan Mohanty, claimed that the incident occurred while he was conducting SIR-related work at Booth No. 103 under Ward No. 35 in the Bhubaneswar Central Assembly Constituency (No. 112).
According to Mohanty, a group allegedly associated with a particular political party attacked him during the exercise. He further alleged that the assailants not only physically assaulted him but also forcibly took away his official identity card and the SIR work register.
Following the incident, Mohanty lodged a written complaint at Kharavel Nagar Police Station, seeking appropriate action against those responsible. He has also informed the election authorities and apprised the concerned election officer about the alleged attack.
The incident comes amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision exercise, under which Booth Level Officers are visiting households to distribute enumeration forms and assist voters in updating details in the electoral rolls.
Police are yet to issue an official statement on the allegations. Further investigation is expected based on the complaint filed by the BLO.
