Bhubaneswar: BJD corporator Amaresh Jena, who was arrested in July in connection with a rape case, was released from Jharpada jail on Wednesday after the High Court granted him bail. Jena, a prominent BJD leader, was taken into custody on July 27 from Balasore for allegedly raping a woman.
After his release, Jena claimed that he was a victim of a conspiracy and had faith in the judiciary. “The conspirators who hatched the plot have been defeated today. I pray to Lord Jagannath to forgive them,” he said, surrounded by his supporters.
Jena added that he had no connection with the alleged conspirators and that the truth would come out in the future. The BJD leader was suspended from the party following his arrest.
Jena faced charges under various sections of the BNS, including rape, causing miscarriage without consent, obscene act, and criminal intimidation, as well as under the POCSO Act. He was traced to a village in Balasore and apprehended by a special squad after a manhunt.
