Bhubaneswar: In a bid to improve public sanitation and curb open urination, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday inaugurated 30 newly constructed public urinal facilities at key locations across the city.

The civic body said the project is part of its larger plan to set up more than 200 such facilities across Bhubaneswar’s three administrative zones.

The newly inaugurated urinals have been installed at high-footfall locations, including Unit-I Market, Rasulgarh Bus Stand, Bapuji Nagar, AG Square Park, Baramunda, Nayapalli, ID Market, Priyadarshini Market, Khandagiri, Sriya Talkies and N-3 Park, among others.

According to the BMC, the facilities have been developed to improve access to basic sanitation, particularly in busy commercial areas, transport hubs and public spaces. The initiative is expected to reduce instances of public urination while promoting cleaner and more hygienic surroundings.

The civic body said all 30 urinal facilities will be available free of cost, with no user fee charged. They will remain open daily from 6 am to 10 pm for public use.

Meanwhile, the BMC plans to construct more than 200 public urinal facilities across the city’s three administrative zones as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen urban sanitation infrastructure.
