Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today held a meeting involving its various wings and other agencies to discuss its preparedness for a possible cyclone over the Bay of Bengal based on the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast.
The BMC has tweeted that it has 72 cyclone shelters and officials will remain present to manage the situation.
Dewatering pumps will be prepositioned in vulnerable points, the tweet added.
The BMC has said that evacuation will be done based on situational requirements. Dry food will be provided to evacuated people in the shelters and on requirement cooked meals will also be provided by BMC.
The cyclone shelters will have all necessary arrangements like first aid along with medicines.
Further, drinking water facilities by WATCO are ready to meet an emergency, the BMC said in the tweet.
Besides, the BMC will operate a control room and citizens can call for any emergency help by dialling 1929.
Stray animals getting injured during the cyclone will be rescued by the BMC. The municipal body has decided to take up sanitation activities on a war footing.
The meeting was chaired by BMC Mayor Sulochana Das.
