BNSS Section 163 Imposed In Kataka's Banki-Dampada Amid Tension

Kataka: The administration on Tuesday imposed BNSS Section 163 in and around the Banki-Dampada block office area following apprehensions of a confrontation between supporters of Banki MLA Devi Ranjan Tripathy and BJP leader Bulu Chakraborty.

The restrictions were imposed as supporters of both sides were expected to gather at the block office, raising concerns over a possible deterioration of the law-and-order situation.

Police deployed additional personnel in the area and urged supporters of both groups to refrain from holding protests or assembling near the block office. The restrictions were imposed as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident.

Tension had reportedly been prevailing in the area since Monday following a face-off between supporters of the two sides.

According to reports, the situation had its roots in an incident a few days ago when BJP leader Bulu Chakraborty visited the block office and questioned officials over the alleged lack of development work in the area.

Following his visit, supporters of Banki MLA Devi Ranjan Tripathy reached the spot, leading to a heated argument between the two groups. The situation subsequently turned tense, prompting police to intervene and bring the situation under control.

With both groups reportedly planning to stage protests at the block office on Tuesday, police and the administration took preventive measures and imposed BNSS Section 163 in the area.

The restrictions were aimed at preventing a possible escalation and maintaining peace in Banki-Dampada.

Additional security personnel have been deployed in the area, and police are keeping a close watch on the situation.
