Bhubaneswar: The body of a man who was dragged into the Kharasrota River by a crocodile two days ago was recovered on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Pareswar Behera. His body was found near Bania culvert under Katanabania panchayat in Rajkanika police station limits in Kendrapada district.
Relatives reached the spot and identified the body. Forest officials and police recovered it and sent it for post-mortem.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning. Behera was going to cross the river to reach Ayatan market. He had entered the shallow waters at Gangadharprasaddia village to board a boat when a crocodile lunged at him and dragged him into the river.
Following the incident, teams from Fire Services, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) had been searching for him for the last two days.
Fire Service personnel from Rajkanika and local residents continued the search operation. Kanika Tehsildar Bhanumati Majhi was present at the spot and monitored the rescue efforts.
