Bhubaneswar: Fire Services, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel on Tuesday took out the dead body of an octogenarian woman who accidentally fell into a 20-foot-deep abandoned borewell near Kemuphul village along the Sonepur-Burda road in Odisha’s Subarnapur district on Monday night.
Following the rescue operation around noon today, the woman was rushed to a medical center. Unfortunately, the doctors at the hospital declared her ‘brought dead’. “She had died quite some time back,” the doctor attending to the woman said.
The woman had been trapped in the borewell for over 12 hours. Since the rescue operation began this morning, Fire Services personnel supplied her oxygen and were constantly communicating with her.
Later, they were joined by ODRAF and NDRF teams and they dug a parallel pitch close to the abandoned borewell and a Fire Services staff entered the borewell through the newly-dug pitch. He carried her out and later she was taken out on a stretcher and rushed to a medical center.
She had come to her daughter’s house in Kemuphul village and gone out to collect some items for making a broom on Monday night when she accidentally fell into the abandoned borewell.
