Kandhamal: The body of a man with a slit throat was found near a pond at Baminigaon in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Maheswar Majhi, a resident of Gadma village under Jinjiriguda panchayat in the Phulbani area of the district.
According to reports, Maheswar had gone to bathe at Baduka Chua, a nearby pond, at around 8.00 pm on Tuesday. However, an unidentified miscreant attacked and slit his throat with a sharp weapon resulting in his death.
Local villagers spotted the body lying near the pond this morning. On being informed, local police along with a scientific team arrived at the spot. The help of a dog squad was also sought. Police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. While the police have launched an investigation to find the reason behind the crime, the motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
