Malkangiri: Panic gripped the premises of the Malkangiri District Court on Monday after authorities received a bomb threat via an anonymous email, prompting an immediate evacuation and a large-scale security response.
According to official sources, court proceedings were underway as usual when the threatening email was received by court authorities. The email claimed that a bomb had been planted inside the court premises by a group identifying itself as the “Tamil Nadu Liberation Group,” and warned of an imminent explosion.
Acting swiftly, District Judge Shantanu Kumar Das ordered the evacuation of all staff, lawyers, and litigants from the court complex. The area was soon cleared as a precautionary measure.
Police personnel rushed to the spot and cordoned off the premises, while a bomb disposal squad launched an intensive search operation across the court building. Each section of the complex is being thoroughly inspected to rule out any presence of explosive devices.
Officials said that, so far, no suspicious object has been detected. However, security has been significantly tightened in and around the area.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the authenticity of the threat and to trace the origin of the email. Authorities suspect it could be a hoax intended to create panic, but are not taking any chances.
Meanwhile, the public has been urged to remain calm as security agencies continue their operation.
