Bhubaneswar: The infant Bijayini’ who was rescued from a borewell in Rengali will not be handed over to her mother who was recently apprehended by police.
Sambalpur district administration has decided to keep her in child care center now.
“Since the mother abandoned the child, she is not entitled to take care of the baby as per the law. After the baby comes back from VIMSAR- Burla after treatment, we will keep her in the child care centre. The police also have an opportunity to prove that the child belongs to the woman. The circumstances under which she threw her also need to be proved. As the case is sub-judice, we would not take any decision,” Sambalpur Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Ajambar Mohanty said.
Now, the infant will not be handed over to the woman. A decision in this regard will be taken only after the court concluded the matter, he added.
If court order goes against the woman, the baby may be handed over to desired childless couple under adoption rule, he added.
