Bhubaneswar: Sanjaya Kumar Mallick, former in-charge Headmaster-cum-Secretary of Project Upper Primary School (PUPS), Budhibalanda in Boudh block, has been sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for misappropriating government funds meant for school construction.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani, delivered the verdict today, 12 December 2025, also imposing a fine of ₹20,000 on the accused.
Mallick, currently serving as an assistant teacher at Gundulia UGHS in the same block, had been charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Sections 409 and 120B of the IPC. The investigation established that he failed to execute the construction of the Project Upper Primary School building at Budhibalanda but misappropriated government funds allocated for the work.
Following the conviction, Mallick was taken into judicial custody to begin his sentence. Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will now approach the competent authority to initiate his dismissal from government service.
