Heatwave Grips Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Heatwave conditions made a strong comeback in Odisha on Sunday, with Boudh emerging as the hottest place in the state at 42.9°C, while at least 11 towns recorded temperatures of 40°C and above.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that the maximum temperature is likely to rise by another two to three degrees Celsius over the next three to four days across several districts.

According to the IMD’s evening bulletin, Angul and Subarnapur recorded 42.1°C each, followed by Jharsuguda at 41.4°C. Sambalpur, Hirakud, and Talcher registered 41°C each.

Among other places reeling under intense heat were Nayagarh at 40.4°C, Bolangir at 40.2°C, and Khurda and Titlagarh at 40°C each.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, however, recorded relatively lower temperatures at 37.4°C and 37.6°C respectively.

People have been advised to avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak afternoon hours and to stay hydrated.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a thunderstorm warning for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts for Monday (May 18). Light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds may occur in isolated places in these districts.
