Bhubaneswar: Braj Mohan Ram has been appointed as the new Governor of Odisha, replacing Hari Babu Kambhampati, who has been holding the office since January 2025, according to a press communique issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.
The appointment is part of a series of gubernatorial changes announced by the President of India, involving six states. The appointments will take effect from the dates the respective appointees assume charge of their offices.
As part of the reshuffle, Om Prakash Mathur, currently Governor of Sikkim, has been appointed Governor of Keralam, while Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Keralam, has been transferred to Tamil Nadu.
Dushyant Gautam has been appointed Governor of Sikkim, while Sudha Yadav has been appointed Governor of Karnataka and Dhal Singh Bisen Governor of Uttarakhand.
Ram, a BJP Dalit leader belonging to the Dhobi community and hailing from Jharkhand, comes from a farming family and has a long record of legislative and social service. He served as an MLA in undivided Bihar before being elected to the Lok Sabha from Palamu on three occasions — in 1996, 1998, and 1999.
Apart from his electoral career, he has served as the in-charge of the State Scheduled Caste Morcha and has been associated with the Dhobi Mahasangh. He has also worked towards establishing educational institutions in Chandwa. His appointment recognises his contribution to grassroots leadership, the empowerment of Dalit communities and decades of legislative and social work.
Hari Babu Kambhampati, who assumed office as Odisha Governor in January 2025, has served in the post for around one year and nine months.
