Bhubaneswar: Malkangiri district in Odisha is witnessing severe disruptions due to incessant rainfall, which has submerged major roads and bridges, cutting off connectivity with neighbouring states
Kankarakonda bridge in Malkangiri district has submerged once again due to incessant rainfall, causing disruptions to traffic on National Highway 326. Water is flowing 4-5 feet high over the bridge, making it impassable.
As a result, traffic between Malkangiri and Kalimela has come to a standstill, with many vehicles stranded on both sides of the bridge. Buses plying from Hyderabad to various districts of the state are also stuck at Kankarakonda, causing inconvenience to passengers. The situation is likely to remain tense until the water level recedes and the bridge becomes passable again.
Also, reports stated that the National Highway connecting Andhra Pradesh and Telangana via Kalimela has been disrupted due to heavy water flow. Vehicles are stranded on both sides of the road. Meanwhile, landslides have occurred in several areas, blocking the road.
The villagers of Talarangapani and Uparangapani, located at the foot of the hills in the NALCO mining area, are facing much difficulties due to continuous rainfall. The roads connecting Kukudasill and Rangapani have been blocked due to landslides, allowing only two-wheelers to pass through while four-wheelers are unable to move.
