Khordha: Police have foiled a major drug trafficking operation in a jungle near the Haj Panchayat office under Jankia Police Station limits in Khordha district, arresting two persons and seizing brown sugar along with cash and multiple vehicles.
Acting on credible intelligence, Sub-Inspector Keshab Chandra Behera of Jankia Police Station conducted a raid at around on Saturday under the supervision of IIC Sushant Kumar Behera. The police team, accompanied by two government witnesses, reached the teak forest area where a suspected drug transaction was reportedly underway.
During the operation, police apprehended two individuals and recovered approximately 52 grams of brown sugar from their possession. Cash amounting to ₹28,400 was also seized.
In addition, police confiscated several vehicles allegedly used in the illegal activity, including a Maruti Suzuki WagonR, a Maruti Suzuki Dzire, a Hero Splendor Plus motorcycle, a TVS iQube electric scooter, a Bajaj Pulsar N250, and a Hero Glamour motorcycle.
The accused have been identified as Santosh Kumar Baliarsingh alias Babi (45) of Haj Godisahi and Anil Baliarsingh alias Lipa (35) of Malipada Majhisahi.
A case has been registered at Jankia Police Station under Sections 21(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act. Both accused were forwarded to court.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the involvement of other individuals and to uncover the wider network linked to the drug trafficking operation.
