Balasore: Sahadevakhunta police in Balasore town have seized 84 gm brown sugar having an approximate market value of around Rs 8 lakh from the possession of two women drug peddlers on Wednesday.
Police have detained the two women aged 57 and 32 years who happen to be mother and daughter.
“Based on information from reliable sources concerning sale of brown sugar, a small team of Sahadevakhunta police swiftly raided a place near Masjid Gali in Arad Bazaar area on Wednesday. Two women have been detained by us. We have seized 51 gm brown sugar from one and 33 gm from another, totalling 84 gm from their conscious possession,” said Balasore SP Sagarika Nath speaking to reporters on Wednesday.
Market value of the seized contraband is around Rs 8 lakh, Nath added.
“We have identified their entire group and soon further arrests will be made,” she said.
The SP informed that the detained women are mother and daughter aged 57 and 32 years of age respectively.
Nath stated that since last week the anti-narcotics taskforce led by SDPO Sadar, DSP City and SDPO Jaleswar has intensified its drive against drug peddlers.
“On 24th a case was registered at Sahadevakhunta, on 31st January 269 gm brown sugar was seized in Jaleswar and again we have seized 84 gm brown sugar today,” she informed.
While further stating that the drive against drugs will be intensified, she said that Balasore police has a zero drugs tolerance policy.
