Bhadrak: The Excise Department in Bhadrak has seized 80 grams of brown sugar worth approximately ₹8 lakh and arrested one person in connection with illegal drug trafficking. The seizure was made during routine patrolling by the mobile unit of the Excise Department on Thursday.

According to sources, Excise officials were conducting regular patrols when they noticed a bike rider behaving suspiciously. Acting on the suspicion, the mobile unit intercepted the biker and carried out a thorough check. During the inspection, officials recovered 80 grams of brown sugar from his possession.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly brought the contraband for the purpose of selling it in the area. The seized brown sugar is estimated to be worth around ₹8 lakh in the illegal market.

Following the recovery, the Excise Police arrested the accused and seized the motorcycle used for transporting the narcotics. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the drugs and to identify other individuals involved in the racket.
