Bhubaneswar: The Excise Department seized brown sugar worth approximately Rs 25 lakh in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
The seizure was made during a raid in the Haldipadia area in the city. Haldipadia falls under the jurisdiction of Laxmisagar police station in the capital city. Officials recovered 256 grams of brown sugar from a car during the operation.
The Excise team acted on specific inputs. They intercepted the vehicle and conducted a search. The search led to the recovery of the contraband. The seized substance is estimated to have a market value of around Rs 25 lakh.
One person was arrested from the spot. He has been identified as Satyabadi Parida. He has been taken into custody for questioning.
Investigators have launched a detailed probe after the seizure. They are tracing the source of the narcotics.
They are also identifying other individuals linked to the illegal trade. Officials are examining whether the accused was part of a larger drug distribution network. The network is suspected to be operating in and around the capital city.
