Bhubaneswar: The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has given the final clearance for the use of forest land for non-forest use for the long-awaited Brutanga irrigation project in Nayagarh district, an official press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.
Worth mentioning, that the project’s forest clearance had been pending for 30 years. After this clearance, this project will prove to be a boon for agriculture and benefit farmers of the district.
The Centre has granted clearance for the irrigation project on 1524.17 hectares of forest land.
With this Brutanga irrigation project can be started on 23,000 hectares.
It is pertinent to mention here that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had discussed with the Union Forest & Environment Minister on the matter during his recent New Delhi visit.
The Chief Minister has thanked the Prime Minister and the Union Forest & Environment Minister for the clearance.
For this compensatory afforestation will be taken up in non-forest areas apart from complying with other guidelines.
