Malkangiri: An Operational Party of the BSF today unearthed a Maoist ammunition dump in the Balimela reserve forest between Lariguda and Taimal villages under Nakamundi gram panchayat under Chitrakonda police limits on the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border in Malkangiri district.
The BSF personnel have seized 3 Steel Tiffin IED (2 litres each), 2 SBML ( Single barrel muzzle loading) guns, 1 Barrel of SBML, 2 empty fired cases of SBML, 11 No.36 HE grenades, 28 non-electric no.6 detonator, safety fuse, INSAS Magazine, Walkie Talkie set(Motorola), improvised explosive powder, splinter material for IED, Maoist literature and miscellaneous items from the dump, said an official press release of the BSF.
Balimela Reserve Forest has been the safe haven for Maoist outfits for a long due to topographical reasons and favourable conducive atmosphere.
BSF troops and police are actively operating in the area to curb the Maoist menace in the region and create a sense of security among the local populace so that Maoist ideology would not spread out anymore.
Recovery of such a huge dump of IEDs, explosives and SBML guns during ongoing TCOC and Saheed Diwas (observed by Maoist outfit on 23rd March) would certainly demoralise the Maoist cadres and their sympathizers.
On the other hand, it would also motivate the security forces to operate more actively in the region.
The BSF is committed to providing a high sense of security among the local populace and assuring a helping hand to extend the developmental schemes up to far-flung areas of Malkalngiri through more such operations conducted in future as well, said the press release.
