Keonjhar: Burglars broke open the donation box of Baldevjew temple and decamped with cash and other valuables donated by devotees on Thursday night, the temple authorities said.
The temple priest found the donation box lying broken on the temple premises when he came to do the morning rituals of the temple and brought it to the notice of the police and locals.
However, the amount of the stolen money is yet to be ascertained.
It is learnt that CCTV installed near the donation box was not working for quite some time.
Temple servitors meanwhile held the security guards responsible for the theft.
They said the donation box was last opened during Rath Yatra. Earlier, sandalwood trees were stolen from the temple campus under the very nose of security guards.
The servitors meanwhile have sought the intervention of the district administration to take action against the burglars.
