Bhadrak: A group of burglars allegedly broke into the ancestral house of a retired IAS officer, stealing valuables including a TV, an inverter, gold jewelry, and cash worth lakhs in the Haladharbindha area of Budanga village under Tihidi police limits on Sunday.
The house belongs to Bijay Nayak, a retired IAS officer.
According to reports, Bijay Nayak and his family live in their ancestral house, along with a tenant, but had been away for 2-3 days attending a program. During their absence, burglars broke into the house by twisting open the metal grills and looted valuable items. During this time, the tenant was also not present.
“I was not here, and whenever there is a program, I don’t stay in the house. When they came, I also returned to the house. When I returned, I found that the house had been looted. The thieves stole gold worth Rs 1.5 lakh, at least Rs 20,000 in cash, an inverter, and a TV. The burglars broke in by twisting open the metal grills of the gate. These thieves need to be punished, as they are targeting homes here, and tomorrow they could strike again in another house,” said the tenant.
Acting on a tip from a relative of Bijay Nayak, the Tihidi police swiftly responded and arrived at the scene. Authorities have since dispatched a scientific team to investigate the matter further, according to Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Prasanna Kumar Nayak.
