Burla Police Seize 3,000 Bottles Of Cough Syrup, Two Arrested

Sambalpur: Burla Police during a raid in the early hours of Tuesday seized a huge cache of cough syrup bottles allegedly meant for illegal sale. Police have arrested two persons in this connection.

According to the police, acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Asish Kumar Nayak of Burla Police Station conducted a raid at around 5.20 AM in an open field behind SUIIT, Sambalpur University.

A pickup van was found parked at the spot, reportedly loaded with the consignment.

During the operation, police seized 3,000 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup (100 ml each), cash amounting to Rs 1.12 lakh, two mobile phones, and the pickup van.

The contraband and cash were seized in the presence of independent witnesses and an executive magistrate.

The accused have been identified as Akash Samal (26) of Talapada, Burla and Sukadeba Deep (21) of Singhijuba in Subarnapur district. Police said the accused were taken into custody under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and will be forwarded to court.

Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and possible networks involved in the illegal trade.
