Berhampur: A businessman sustained bullet injuries in a suspected case of business rivalry after unidentified miscreants opened fire at him in Shastrinagar 5th Line under Badabazar police limits of Berhampur city on Tuesday evening.
The victim, identified as S. Balakrishna Achary (47), was critically injured and has been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital with a gunshot wound on his left arm.
According to reports, four assailants arrived in a car, stormed into Balakrishna’s residence, fired at him, and fled the scene in the same vehicle. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation, but initial suspicion points towards a business-related dispute.
Upon learning of the incident, Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M visited the hospital to take stock of the situation and spoke to the medical team attending to the victim. Meanwhile, the Badabazar police have launched a probe and are scanning CCTV footage and local leads to identify and nab the culprits.
The incident has triggered concern in the locality, with residents demanding increased security and swift justice.
