Cuttack: A businessman was shot dead in the Krishna Nagar Vihar area under Bayalis Mouza Police Station in Cuttack district on Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Bikash Mohanty, a resident of Birang in Jagatsinghpur district. The accused, a resident of Pattamundai in Kendrapara district, has been taken into custody.
According to preliminary investigations, the incident is suspected to be the result of past enmity.
“The accused and Mohanty were consuming liquor together when an altercation broke out. In a fit of rage, the accused opened fire, killing Mohanty on the spot. We have apprehended the accused and seized his firearm,” said Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo.
He further stated that Cuttack Sub-Division IV ACP Amitab Mohapatra is leading the investigation along with the IIC.
“A scientific team has also been called in for a thorough investigation,” the DCP added.
Further inquiries are underway to ascertain the exact motive and identify any possible accomplices.
