Jajpur: A Byasanagar tahsildar was critically injured after being run over by a tractor during a raid on illegal soil excavation near Minabazar Chhak under Korei police limits in Jajpur district on Saturday.
The injured officer, Prashant Kumar Panda, had reached the spot with a team after receiving a tip-off about unauthorised digging and soil lifting in the area. According to reports, a group of miscreants allegedly involved in the illegal activity attempted to flee when the team intervened.
During the confrontation, one of the accused allegedly drove a tractor towards the tahsildar, running him over in an apparent attempt to kill him. Panda sustained severe injuries at the scene.
He was immediately rescued by members of his team and rushed to the Korei Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.
On being informed, police personnel reached the spot and launched an investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the miscreants involved in the attack.
