Bhubaneswar: Acclaimed Odia actor Raimohan Parida’s death on Friday has left the film industry and his near and dear ones, shocked and baffled. A 58-year-old person, hale and hearty, apparently showing no signs of depression before family, neighbours or at work, committing suicide was not easy to fathom.
Born on July 10, 1953, Parida is survived by two daughters and his wife. According to reports, he had sent a common text message to the mobile phones of his daughters and wife, which read – ‘Bye’. Whether this message was an indication to him resorting to the extreme step, is being verified.
Saheed Nagar police led by IIC Himansu Bhusan Swain rushed to the late actor’s house and retrieved the body. The cause of death will be ascertained after the autopsy reports are available, said Swain, adding that a case of unnatural death has been registered.
The news of the 58-year-old actor’s passing away has sent shock waves across the film industry with his colleagues mourning his sudden death. Many actors visited Parida’s residence to pay tributes and express condolences.
A native of Keonjhar district, Parida was known for essaying negative roles. He acted in over 100 Odia films and 15 Bengali movies. He was also a popular figure in theatre. Raimohan Parida made his acting debut in the Odia film industry through ‘Sagar’.
The actor was popular for his films such as: ‘Bandhana’, ‘Asibu Kebe Saji Mo Rani’, ‘Tu Thile Mo Dara Kahaku’, ‘Neija Re Megha Mote’, ‘Chhati Chiridele Tu’, ‘ Kalishankar’, ‘Toh Bina Mo Kahani Adha’, ‘Toh Pain Nebi Mu Sahe Janama’, ‘ De Maa Shakti De’, ‘Rakate Lekhichi Naa’, ‘Mo Mana Khali Tumari Pain’, ‘Udandi Seeta’.
Parida’s neighbours said they met him on Thursday and he appeared normal. “We shared a very cordial and homely relationship with him. He was a tremendous actor and a lovely human being. He will be missed,” they said.
