Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet today approved the tender for an in-stream storage structure across the river Ong, a tributary of the Mahanadi, near village Jamutpalli in Gaisilat block of Bargarh district.
The project aims to conserve surface water by creating in-stream storage within the river. The stored water will be utilised during the lean season to address water scarcity.
The execution cost of the project is ₹159,36,95,008, excluding GST. It is targeted to be completed within 30 calendar months.
The structure will ensure assured and sustainable domestic water supply to around 41 villages in Gaisilat and Padampur blocks. The storage will also support fisheries, animal husbandry, and other water-dependent livelihood activities.
Officials added that the in-stream storage structure will improve the ecological balance of the region and help replenish groundwater levels.
