Cabinet Okays Amendment To Fix Seniority Anomaly In Elementary Education Cadre

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet on Tuesday approved amendment to the Odisha Elementary Education (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service of teachers and officers) Rules, 1997 to correct anomaly in fixation of seniority.

Rule-15(6) of the existing rules provides that seniority in the cadre of Level-II (ABEO) shall be fixed on the basis of length of service in Level-III. This has led to a situation where a junior has been placed above the senior by virtue of his longer length of service in Level-III.

Taking into consideration the issue, the government has decided to amend the rules. As per the amendment, the basis of determination of seniority should not be the length of service in a specific level, rather it should be the position in the select list, the School and Mass Education Department said.
