Jagatsinghpur: In a tragic incident, a 46-year-old man died after being struck by lightning while grazing cattle near the Bhalijori Devi River close to Kapurabelaari village under Baramundali Panchayat in Balikuda tehsil of Jagatsinghpur district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Das, a resident of Kapurabelaari.
According to reports, Sanjay had gone out in the morning to graze his cattle along the riverbank. Around 12:30 PM, as heavy rain lashed the area, a bolt of lightning struck him. He collapsed on the spot, writhing in pain, as nearby cattle herders rushed to his aid and immediately alerted his family members.
He was taken in an ambulance to the Balikuda Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him brought dead. The Balikuda Police have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body to Jagatsinghpur District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examination, which will be conducted on Saturday morning.
Sanjay is survived by his wife and two sons. His sudden death has left the family devastated, and the incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village.
