Centre’s Rs 2,229 Cr Pumps Into Odisha’s Rural Mobile Connectivity Under Digital Bharat Nidhi Initiative

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The Union Ministry of Communications has disbursed Rs 2,229.35 crore to telecom operators to strengthen mobile connectivity in Odisha’s rural and remote areas. This move aims to bridge the digital divide and enhance telecom services in underserved regions.

As part of the Digital Bharat Nidhi initiative, 5,182 mobile towers are planned for Odisha, covering 7,157 villages. Of these, 4,470 towers will be set up in 13 districts under the Fifth Schedule to the Constitution. The funds, including Rs 1,859.95 crore for Fifth Schedule areas, will support telecom expansion.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia stated that the initiative promotes universal service and delivers telecommunication services to rural and remote areas. With 34,780 mobile towers planned nationwide, Odisha is a key focus area for improving connectivity
