Bhubaneswar: The fourth day of the Odisha Assembly session witnessed unprecedented chaos and pandemonium as members of the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress created a ruckus in the House. As a result, Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the House till 4 pm.
The Odisha Assembly saw a chaotic scene on Thursday as opposition members created an uproar in the House during the zero hour. The opposition parties raised the contentious Polavaram project issue, leading to a commotion in the Assembly.
Congress MLA Rama Chandra Kadam expressed displeasure over the central government’s decision to fund Andhra Pradesh for the Polavaram project. He alleged that the project would lead to flooding in several areas of southern Odisha.
Following this, Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati demanded that a House Committee be formed to address the Polavaram issue. The Congress members then created a ruckus in the House, demanding that the Speaker take action on their demand.
Seconding Kadam, MLA Tara Bahinipati allegedly pulled the Speaker’s microphone, leading to a brief adjournment of the House. The Speaker, Surama Padhy, first adjourned the House for 15 minutes and later extended the adjournment to 4 pm.
