Bhubaneswar: A hard-core Maoist gave up violence and surrendered before the Kandhamal Superintendent of Police (SP) today.

Bija Madabi, alias Tikesh, a member of the outlawed KKBN organization, surrendered a pistol and two live bullets in the presence of Southern DIG Sarthak Sarangi.

The Kandhamal SP Harisha B.C said that six gelatin sticks, two electric detonators, a radio, solar plate, Maoist articles, and food items were seized. According to the police, Tikesh, a resident of Mangalguda village in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, joined the Maoist organization in 2018 and was involved in 10 violent acts.

Tikesh reportedly surrendered due to the government’s appeal to Maoists to renounce violence and join mainstream society. He was also disillusioned with the atrocities within the Maoist camp.

The police have gained valuable information from Tikesh, and the Kandhamal SP is conducting further investigation.
