Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra visited different places in Swabhiman Anchal of Chitrakonda, once considered a hotbed of Naxals.
Mahapatra visited the area today on the second day of his 2-days tour to Malkangiri.
The Chief Secretary reviewed field level implementation of the Swabhiman Anchal special packages announced by the Chief Minister, said an official press release.
Field level progress of the projects relating to horticulture, fishery, alternative livelihood for the inhabitants, enhancing the income of the farmers, improvement of quality health care in hospitals, functioning of education and hostel complex, growth of eco-tourism, irrigation, electrification, road connectivity to all villages, and telecom connectivity were reviewed.
Mahapatra instructed officials to intensify infrastructure laying and livelihood creation activities in all gram panchayats and villages.
The review revealed that a large chunk of the population was engaged in fishing, forestry and horticulture activities.
Seven telecom towers are operating in the area. All households in 9 gram panchayats of Swabhiman Anchal have been distributed mobile handsets. Around 99 per cent of the area has been made free of Naxal activities.
In course of this tour, Mahapatra saw the developmental works and interacted with people at several places namely the horticulture farm at Chitrakonda, Eco-park at Chitrakonda, functioning of lift irrigation projects, progress of piped drinking water supply, and 33 KV Power substation at Chitrakonda.
He went to the BSF camp and interacted with camp officials. He also discussed with people about road connectivity and service delivery in the area.
A large number of people along with Chairman Zilla Parishad Somari Tangulu gathered near the camp to interact with the Chief Secretary. They expressed their happiness about developmental work. Many people were heard saying that this was the first-ever visit of any Chief Secretary to their area.
Earlier on the first day of the tour Mahapatra reviewed the high school transformation project in Madhusudan High school, Motu, and agricultural activities in deep borewell irrigation cluster in Potteru area. He also reviewed the progress of the under-construction bridge over the river Saberi connecting Odisha and Chattisgarh.
The Chief Secretary also went to Mugi borderline point and reviewed developmental activities there. He garlanded images of great leaders of Odisha who had led the people’s movement for the formation of a separate province of Odisha.
Chairman Zilla Parishad Somari Tangulu, Additional District Magistrate Birasen Pradhan, Project Director DRDA Balmukund Bhuyan, Divisional Forest Officer Pratap Kottapali along with senior district level officers of Malkangiri accompanied the Chief Secretary in this visit.
