Bhubaneswar: A high-level review meeting on the implementation progress of Talcher Fertilizers Limited (TFL) was held yesterday under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anu Garg at Lok Seva Bhawan.

The meeting focused on resolving various bottlenecks hindering the project and accelerating its execution. Officials decided to fast-track all preparatory works to commission the project by December 2027.Talcher Fertilizers Limited is a joint venture of public sector giants – Coal India Limited, GAIL (India) Limited, Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers, and Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited. The project aims to produce urea using indigenous coal through the coal gasification route at Talcher in Angul district.

This is a landmark initiative under India’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision as it will reduce dependence on imported natural gas and fertilizer imports by utilizing domestically available coal resources.

During the meeting, OPGC assured to complete the 220 KV power line connectivity by December 2026. Progress on railway siding and 33 KV lines was also reviewed. Issues related to encroachment removal, rehabilitation, and compensation were discussed in detail.

The project is regularly monitored on the Prime Minister’s “Pragati” platform.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Industries, Hemant Sharma, CMD, OPTCL, Bhaskar Sharma, CEO, TPCODL, senior railway officials, and virtually by the District Collector, SP Angul, and Divisional Forest Officer.
