Bhubaneswar: In a joint operation by Childline and local police foiled a child marriage from taking place and rescued the minor girl in Chandaka area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
Acting on a tip-off Childline Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) and Chandaka police intervened and stopped the marriage of the minor girl being solemnized by her parents with a man from that area and rescued her, said an official press note.
The girl was 16 years of age and was studying in High School, the press note added.
The press note said that Childline produced the minor before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and with its order, she has been placed in VJSS Open Shelter.
While an FIR has been lodged at Chandaka Police Station in this connection, information has been sent to DCPO, Khordha, and Chairperson, OSCPCR, the press note added.
