Malkangiri: One child succumbed to food poisoning and at least 25 others fell sick after consuming food at a wedding party in Mathili block of Malkangiri district in Odisha on Wednesday evening. All the affected children have been admitted to the Mathili Community Health Centre (CHC) and Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where the condition of four children is said to be critical.

According to reports, people from neighbouring areas were invited to a marriage feast in Nuaguda village last evening. More than 25 children from Bandhaguda village fell ill after consuming food at the feast. They started vomiting and having diarrhea.

The ailing children were rushed to the Mathili CHC and Malkangiri DHH. One child succumbed to food poisoning at the Mathili CHC during treatment.

A medical team has reached the village and started an investigation into the incident. The team has collected samples of the food served at the feast for testing. It is not known why the children became ill after eating the feast. Preliminary investigations suggest that food poisoning could be responsible.
